Why Every Mantra Begins with Om

Introduction Almost every Hindu mantra begins with Om. But why? The Mandukya Upanishad declares that Om itself is Brahman, the ultimate reality. Before invoking any deity, the chanter first aligns with the universal consciousness represented by Om. Om Is Not a Religion It belongs to no single sect. Shaiva. Vaishnava. Shakta. Ganapatya. All accept Om. Three Sounds A – Creation U – Preservation M – Dissolution Silence – Absolute Reality. Vibrational Effect When chanted correctly, Om creates vibrations through the chest, throat and head. Many practitioners find that it: * settles the breath, * quiets mental chatter, * and prepares the mind for prayer or meditation. Daily Practice Sit quietly. Chant Om 11 times. Notice the silence that follows each repetition. Quote “The silence after Om is as sacred as the sound itself.”
